PICO-SALAX® Bowel Prep Medication for Colonoscopy

PICO-SALAX® is a bowel prep medication used by adults and children to cleanse the colon before a colonoscopy. This preparation ensures a clear view of the colon during the procedure by causing diarrhea.

Active Ingredients:

• Sodium Picosulfate – 10.0 milligrams
• Magnesium Oxide – 3.5 grams
• Citric Acid – 12.0 grams

How Does PICO-SALAX® Work?

PICO-SALAX® is a white powder packaged in sachets. When mixed with cold water, it causes diarrhea, gradually cleansing the solid waste from the colon.

How is PICO-SALAX® Taken?

PICO-SALAX® is taken in two parts. Each sachet is mixed with 150 ml of cold water. After each dose, it is recommended to drink 1.5 to 2 liters of a variety of clear liquids over a 4-hour period.

How is PICO-SALAX® Different from Other Therapies?

PICO-SALAX® allows you to drink a smaller volume of prep solution compared to other bowel prep medications. You can stay hydrated by consuming clear liquids of your choice during the prep process.

How Quickly Does PICO-SALAX® Work?

The onset of PICO-SALAX®’s effects may vary among patients. Some may experience the effects immediately, while others may take some time. It is important to have easy access to a bathroom as soon as you start taking PICO-SALAX®.

Important Note:

Do not take PICO-SALAX® if your healthcare provider has informed you of any contraindications, such as serious kidney problems, bowel obstruction, bowel perforation, gastric retention, allergy to any ingredients in PICO-SALAX®, or congestive heart failure.
