Instructions:

Hot Therapy Directions:

  1. Ensure microwave is free from oils, food and dirt particles.
  2. Square bag: Lay flat in microwave and distribute oats evenly before heating. Rectangular bag: Arrange oat bag in a U-shape, place in microwave and distribute oats evenly before heating.
  3. Heat for 60 seconds.
  4. Test oat bag temperature for comfort level before applying directly to skin. If oat bag is not hot enough, return to microwave and heat for an additional 30 seconds.
  5. Do not heat oat bag in microwave more than 4 times per day.

How long to apply hot therapy: A single hot therapy treatment can last for as long as 20 – 30 minutes. Monitor your ability to tolerate the heat; let your comfort level be your guide.

Cold Therapy Directions:

  1. Place oat bag in a plastic bag then into the freezer for at least 5 hours.
  2. Remove oat bag from freezer and plastic bag, and test temperature to ensure comfort level before applying to skin.

How long to apply cold therapy: Cold therapy can last from 5 – 30 minutes. Discontinue cold therapy before your skin turns numb and do not re-apply until after your skin has returned to a normal temperature. Monitor your ability to tolerate the cold; let your comfort level be your guide.
