Laxative

Each 300 mL of clear, lemon flavoured solution contains 15 g (50 mg/mL) of anhydrous magnesium citrate.

Magnesium citrate is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called osmotic laxatives and purgatives. It works by pulling water into the large intestine, which softens the stool and prompts the muscles in the colon to contract and push the stool out, resulting in a bowel movement. It is used for short-term relief of constipation and to cleanse the bowels before certain medical procedures, such as a colonoscopy. The medication is typically taken by mouth and the effects are usually felt within half an hour to six hours after taking it. It comes in a lemon-flavored, colorless solution, and should be taken with a full glass of water. It should be used only for short-term relief of constipation and should not be taken for more than a week, unless directed by a doctor. Consult with a doctor before taking this medication, especially for children, and do not give it to others. If you have any questions or concerns about the medication, speak to your doctor. It should be stored at room temperature, out of reach of children, and should not be disposed of in regular household waste. Ask your pharmacist for proper disposal instructions.
